YFC 1 – 4 UBC Metro
YFC went down convincingly to a superior UBC Metro team last Friday evening at Andy Livingstone. The game didn’t start well, the starting lineup wasn’t able to come together as desired and the boys started cautiously. UBC was offered a bit too much respect and they immediately began to run riot from midfield towards the flanks and then looking to cut inside and shoot. Which is just what they did three times in the first 30 minutes scoring each time to romp to a 3-0 lead early on. YFC was having a hard time controlling the match and just as they began to sort things out defensively and offensively, Masa Egami was sent through on goal. He got to the ball first but their keeper came out beyond the 18 extremely hard, crashing violently into Masa’s legs and flipping him into the air. Instant red card and Masa needed to be substituted shortly after with an ankle injury.
Adam Jennings stepped up to take the subsequent freekick a few yards outside the 18 yard box and he delivered a looping curler into the top left of the goal. A goal claimed for YFC and a bit of momentum began to swing towards the home team. It didn’t last long however as 2 more injuries before the half robbed YFC of any fluency they had built up. Minoru Echizenya, constesting a header around the half took a blow to his brow resulting in a big cut that saw him instantly substituted, bandaged and taken to the hospital for stitches. Before the half was out Adam Jennings went into a tackle with full force and came up hobbling with what looked to be fairly serious knee injury. Out he went and without the services of other starting players, the midfield was a bit short on experienced YFC bodies.
In the second half things were pretty dire and UBC were able to bag another goal after a poor defensive decision near the sideline resulted in the away team getting a breakaway and scoring. YFC looked worse against 10 men then they did in the first half against a full side, but given the challenges they faced with missing players its nothing to dwell on.
This Saturday YFC take on 2nd placed MYB Panthers at noon on Andy Livingstone’s turf, should be a cracker!
