NorWest United 1 – 1 YFC
It’s starting to get a bit silly isn’t it? YFC drew their 7th match of the season against another bottom-of-the-table club. Yaletown had bucket-fulls of possession and won the ball at will, they controlled NorWest’s attack with ease and bossed the midfield totally. But the final third is where it counts and YFC were dismal yet again, squandering a number of chances and unlucky on a number of others.
NorWest managed to score the first goal on their first shot of the game through a YFC mistake, where some lines were crossed and marking temporarily disappeared on a scramble in the 18. It was a lucky goal and it really didn’t phase Yaletown much at all, it only seemed to piss them off as they knew they were the superior side. They took a firm grip of the midfield and strung together passing beautifully with Adam Jennings sitting in central midfield spraying the ball about with confidence. About two thirds of the way into the first half Arnie Emmerson did some great individual work after receiving the ball about 20 yards from goal and fired low to the second post to score the first YFC goal from open play in what feels like a century.
After leveling the match YFC retained possession, shut down the inept NorWest attack and won the ball seemingly without trying at times and pressed for the winner which never came. The first half came to a close and a stern half-time speech from Glyn Roberts lit a fire under the boys who stepped it up even more in the second half. However its difficult to win a game when your opponent seems content to park 8 men behind the ball and simply hoof it up to their 2 attackers, only to lose it immediately… repeat ad nauseam. To their credit NorWest had a few chances here and there on the break, almost catching Yaletown pushing a bit too far up the pitch for their second goal, but in the end YFC had Sherman Lai to rely on between the pipes and he snuffed out any chances with bone-crunching authority.
