YFC 0 – 0 Norvan JBs

Well, it seems that last weekend’s goal against Sikh Temple was the anomaly in a 6 game streak of painful displays of finishing. YFC has drawn with the 2 worst teams in the league and the 2 best teams in the league with a combined 1 goal scored in those 4 games and 1 goal scored in their last 6 games.

Today was a bit different than the Cobras game as YFC totally dominated and played some great football in the first half and at times in the second half. The boys were stringing together passes, winning the ball well and cutting off all opportunities to a decidedly one dimensional Norvan team. As in the last match with Norvan, all they could do was look for their #5 attacker at every opportunity as the rest of their team was significantly below his quality.

Definitely a frustrating match as YFC had bucket-fulls of possession only to squander every chance they had. The Norvan keeper made a number of quality saves to keep his team in the game but it was 2 points lost in the end for YFC. Far too many draws this season have seen Yaletown slip down the table as the top 4 pull away in points, there is no one else to blame but YFC as the finishing has been the difference this season.

Its not all doom and gloom however as this season one of the main focuses of the team has been the social aspect of the club and they have definitely been delivering in that respect. Nights at Migz BBQ have become a tradition, along with free shots and many a pitcher of lager the boys have been having a great time outside of the game and this has reflected in the way they play. Few teams in the VMSL can claim such a unified front and support for their teammates, as team after team YFC faces are plagued with players screaming and insulting one another while YFC stays positive and supports each other. Definitely something to be proud of as football is not everything in life (especially at this level), on to next week!
